You continued showing phenomenal support in the years since, playing with and against each other across major post-launch content for the original game. Thanks to you, our fans, the reception to The Division exceeded our expectations, breaking multiple Ubisoft records. Tom Clancy's The Division: Heartland is currently in development. When we launched Tom Clancy’s The Division in 2016, the team at Ubisoft Massive and all of our studios around the world had high ambitions for what was then the first completely original IP under the Tom Clancy’s umbrella since 2009 – not to mention it was also an ambitious game unlike anything Ubisoft had produced before. Hopefully, Ubisoft can bring players back on board with some new trailers soon. The Division is one of the few Ubisoft franchises that hasn't been run into the ground yet, and the publisher needs this spin-off to perform well. However, with every new delay, fans become more and more disinterested. When Division Heartland was first announced, fans rejoiced, with a PvPvE free-to-play spin-off sounding like a perfect next step for the looter-shooter franchise. Ubisoft cannot afford for The Division Heartland to follow the same trend, but no matter how hard it tries, these delays aren't helping the game. According to SteamDB at the time of writing, Roller Champions currently has a 24-hour peak player count of just 66 players, with only 34 playing right now. Back in July 2022, just a month after the game released, rumors started circulating the internet that Ubisoft was going to shut down Roller Champions, and while the publisher refuted those claims, a shutdown must certainly be on the cards for Roller Champions soon. By the time Roller Champions did release, that original audience had lost interest long ago, and as a result, Roller Champions was met with no fanfare.ĭespite being a genuinely pretty solid game, Roller Champions struggled to capture a player-base in its first few weeks, and its lack of content struggled to maintain any players for longer than just a few days. However, Ubisoft would continue to delay Roller Champions over the next few years, pushing its slated 2021 release date to May 2022, and then finally to June 2022, when it eventually released. While it certainly wasn't a stand out of 2019's E3, it was a good addition to the line-up, and the game had plenty of fans already on board. This free-to-play model also worked well with the amount of content that Roller Champions was going to have, making it a much better deal for those on the fence. On top of that, Roller Champions' free-to-play model meant that the game would be highly accessible, which is perfect for gamers who aren't too keen on sports games but are willing to jump into one if it's free. RELATED: Skull and Bones Will Likely Not Be a Trendsetter Ubisoft Can't Afford for The Division Heartland to be Another Roller ChampionsĪnnounced all the way back in 2019 during E3, Roller Champions was met with a solid amount of excitement during its debut, with its unique take on the sports game genre feeling like a breath of fresh air. And this time, it could be disastrous, with The Division Heartland seemingly following in the footsteps of Ubisoft's failed Roller Champions. Since then, The Division Heartland has received several delays, with the most recent occurring just a few weeks ago. After its initial announcement in 2021, Ubisoft gave the game a 2021 release date, which of course it didn't make. And what might tip the company over the edge is its recent The Division Heartland delay.Ī free-to-play spinoff, The Division Heartland takes the third-person looting gameplay of its big brothers and condenses it down into a 45-player PvPvE game mode. Along with the Skull and Bones delay, a slew of other Ubisoft titles have been either delayed or outright canceled, and things aren't looking great for one of the industry's biggest publishers. Aside from Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft is struggling to nail down exactly what franchises are going to be its future, and after yet another delay, it doesn't look like Skull and Bones is going to be included in that. It's no secret that Ubisoft is having a bit of a rough run at the minute.
